These trials made us better and, in searching for a replacement shock for the Foxes, made our check-list longer and quality standards more stringent.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLet’s talk about the highlights.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4 data-fontsize=\"38\" data-lineheight=\"45.6px\" class=\"fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\"\u003eThe Construction:\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBoth the Internal Reservoir (IFP) and Remote Reservoir shocks will feature the same construction. The body is 6063 aluminum offering a long service life and fantastic heat dissipation – they’re also anodized for corrosion resistance. The 5\/8″ shafts are a hardened \u0026amp; chrome plated steel. These shocks are spec’d with a premium 5WT oil to balance lubricity, consistent damping and the widest available range in temperature variation. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe stem-top bushings are something we’re excited about. In our vast experience with shocks, we’ve become bushing snobs. In an industry obsessed with poly bushings, we’ve always measured against our benchmark – the original rubber Bilstein bushings. In an eyelet style, poly is fantastic – in a stem-top, we’ve not met a poly bushing we preferred to tried and true rubber. They do not seem to handle the forces of the stem-top as well as a rubber bushing. We’re elated to be able to spec a rubber bushing on these Carli Spec Shocks. Elated may be an exaggeration but we eat, sleep and breath shocks – to eliminate such a frequent point of failure is exciting!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe rod ends are constructed of 6061 billet aluminum; inside you will find a high-quality 1-peice bushing and zinc-plated crush sleeves for precision fit and longevity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe cylinder end cap has a unique design as it overlaps the body of the shock to provide external support to the internal snap ring. The Gold Jammit Nut indicates the changeover from the FPRB to the slightly shorter FATB.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Carli Track Bar’s dual FK Bearing pivots allow the bar to cycle free from the bind of the factory double-vulcanized bushings while offering vibration damping to minimize road noise transmission and maximize service life. The Encapsulated FK Uniball – CUB Joint – was tested to -110°F and took it in stride with no cracking or deformation, even loss of damping during subjection to the extreme cold. The Heim and Encapsulated Uniball are both replaceable allowing users to rebuild rather than replace their bars.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn the other end, a massive 1-1\/4″ FK Bearing heat treated Chromoly Heim Joint encapsulated in a sealed boot and secure it to the bar with our proprietary Jammit nut. What’s wrong with a standard jam-nut – you ask? Not a damn thing but, if we can improve it, why not do so? We won’t give too many details as the design, metallurgy and production took enough time that we want to protect the details but the nut offers 100% more clamping surface area than a standard jam nut.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDesigned and built to maximize travel and ensure factory compatibility, this track bar best suits 2.5″ and 4.5″ lift systems with OEM steering geometry (no track bar or pitman arm drops). In lieu of travel-limiting drop brackets, the Carli Track Bar includes different axle-spacer configurations engineered to alter the lower pivot to better match the factory steering arc respective to each lift height. Laymen’s terms, the bar includes all components necessary to configure specifically to both 2.5″ and 4.5″ steering geometry to minimize steering wheel feedback.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe consider the Track Bar to be the single most important – ironically, also the most overlooked – component in the front end. It’s highly leveraged as both a steering and suspension component and it’s strength, geometry and vibration damping properties directly translate into perceived quality of the entire suspension. A worn or neglected factory track bar results in loose or delayed steering input, improper axle alignment, bump steer, death wobble or excessive road noise through the steering leading to increased driver fatigue and little confidence in the vehicle’s handling capabilities, exacerbated in lifted or leveled vehicles. The Adjustable Track Bar centers the front axle and Stainless Brake Lines firm up braking and ensure there is enough line for the newfound travel. To round off the front end, we include Caster Shims to tighten the steering and a fabricated, High-Clearance Bump Stop Drop to keep the springs clear from the contacting the factory bump stop. The front Sway Bar Geometry will need to be addressed with your choice of a Sway Bar Drop Bracket (more economical, maintains the factory Sway Bar End Links) or our Extended Sway Bar links – a FAR more robust option. If capacity is a concern, an aftermarket airbag system should be installed to complement the Full Progressive Leaf Springs to restore the F350 capacity. We recommend a system that will allow the airbags to disconnect from the lower mount during suspension cycling to ensure you’re able to take advantage of all your rear suspension travel. The Full Progressive Leaf Spring Pack will shift the axle slightly forward in the wheel well to ensure maximum tire clearance for a 37” M\/T at full compression.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e2- Better:\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFactory leaf-pack modifying Progressive Add-a-Pack\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e(maintains factory payload capacity). The F250 has a lighter rate spring pack (2 main leaf springs) than its 350 counterpart (3 main leaf springs). The F250 Add-a-Pack equipped systems are a nice improvement over stock; the F350 with the Add-a-Pack is still very stiff in the rear as the main pack doesn’t move much unless loaded. We recommend the Full Replacement Leaf Spring packs for both trucks but especially the F350 given the super-stiff factory springs. If you own an F250 built with the Tremor or high-capacity tow package, these are equipped with an F350 rear spring and should avoid the add-a-pack, as well.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e3- Good:\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eThe final option is to select\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e“NO rear option”\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ein this scenario, the rear lift will be left up to the customer as no rear spring modification is purchased. With this option, the rear springs are unaltered and customers will be best with the “PAP” valving profile. The valving has been tested on both F250 and F350 (2 and 3 leaf main packs). The F250s with 2 Main springs will require a taller block to sit level (4″ and slightly tapered). The F350 (and f250 High capacity tow) with 3- leaf main springs will need a 3″ block, also slightly tapered. Tremors do not require a block change as they come with a taller, tapered block and will sit slightly rear high with the Carli System installed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIf a Carli rear spring option is not purchased, you can use the taller \u003cstrong\u003e2017-19 Ford 3″ rear block\u003c\/strong\u003e for a leveled stance, although ride quality may not be optimized (Factory Block PN: HC3Z-5598-A and HC3Z-5598-B). They’re known to rub the radius arm, sway bar and most concerning – Brake Lines. Factory tires and factory wheels will work without issue but we DO NOT recommend running oversized tires on factory wheels. On our 2.5” Ford Systems, we recommend 17”-18” wheels, no more than 9” wide with 5.5” of backspacing with Carli Fabricated Radius Arms or 5” Backspace with factory arms; 5” will require a bit more trimming. Tires, 37×12.5” will fit with some trimming; 35” will likely fit without trimming. The more rubber, the better the small bump compliance will be at proper inflation pressures. The ride will firm up as you go larger in wheel diameter. For the 2020-23 Super Duty, we provide a 2° caster shim which is enough to restore this caster and add a touch more – unfortunately, this “touch more” is rarely enough for proper tracking. This leaves us recommending our Adjustable Radius Arms proven to add an additional 2.5° of caster (when maxed). Combining the Carli Arms and 2° shims results in a Super Duty on 37″ tires that holds a lane, and returns to center after a turn, better than a stock truck.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEnter the 2024 Super Duty – Ford made ONE change to the platform… They added an outer axle-mounted guard to prevent debris from entering the outside axle tube (highlighted in RED for clarity). The issue is in the functionality of the ball-joint mounted caster shims we provide in our 05-23 Super Duty Systems to correct the caster. These shims don’t affect the axial position of the axle, but rotate the knuckle\/upper ball joint position rearward relative to the axle’s outer “c” to increase caster.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGiven the tight proximity of this debris shield to the axle tube, any caster shim over 1° will cause contact. The factory Ford caster specification is outlined in the above printouts; it reads:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e1.0°-3.6°: Driver\u003cbr\u003e1.3°-3.9°: Passenger\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThese specs are for a stock Super Duty and, with smaller tires, the lower end of the range tracks and drives OK. Honestly, we’ve put a ton of time behind the wheel of 23+ Super Duties with this caster spec and they all drive fine without any signs of death wobble or instability. We’ve always preferred the tracking and handling of larger tires in the 3°-5° range. We’ve run up to nearly 7° with no ill effect (no wobble, tracking or driveshaft binding issues) aside from a “heavy” steering wheel – even this would only likely apply to an XL\/XLT without the electric steering assist of the higher trims.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe set out to design a Radius Arm Drop Bracket solution that would be more cost-effective than (and stack-able with) the Adjustable Radius Arms and, hopefully, provide ample caster correction, even with stock arms.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe stock radius arm frame pivot is tricky as it’s a stamp-formed bracket with a deep lip around the perimeter. Normally, we design our drop brackets to bolt to the inside of the factory pivot, form along the bottom of the factory bracket, then shape to fit the factory arm exactly as our 5.5″ drops do. The issue… this is too much drop and would cause excessive caster for the lift height and an upward radius arm angle at ride height.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack to the drawing board, our engineer thought outside the box (well, outside the factory bracket). Avoiding the above constraint all together, the Leveling Drop was designed to sandwich the factory bracket from the outside, allowing us to achieve the proper drop height.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo make this work, we pickup the same rear support as our 5.5″ drops, then our bracket sandwiches the factory bracket. To accommodate the “lip” on the factory bracket, we provide a thick spacer that keys into the Carli drop bracket taking up the gap on the outside, then a thinner spacer to take up the same slack on the inside and finally, a dual crush sleeve to provide inside support to the factory bracket. The exposed bolt shank represents the location of the two ears of the factory bracket when installed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis color-coded picture is from the rear perspective. The bolt-heads represent the OUTSIDE of the frame rail. These shocks are spec’d with a premium 5WT oil to balance lubricity, consistent damping and the widest available range in temperature variation\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe stem-top bushings are something we’re excited about. In our vast experience with shocks, we’ve become bushing snobs. In an industry obsessed with poly bushings, we’ve always measured against our benchmark – the original rubber Bilstein bushings. In an eyelet style, poly is fantastic – in a stem-top, we’ve not met a poly bushing we preferred to tried and true rubber. They do not seem to handle the forces of the stem-top as well as a rubber bushing. We’re elated to be able to spec a rubber bushing on these Carli Spec Shocks. Elated may be an exaggeration but we eat, sleep and breath shocks – to eliminate such a frequent point of failure is exciting!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe cylinder end cap has a unique design as it overlaps the body of the shock to provide external support to the internal snap ring. These shocks serve as the travel limiter for all trucks without our radius arms (and subsequent limit straps installed), ensuring the shock stays together on top out while bearing the load of the axle is paramount.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Remote Reservoir variant adds the separate canister to carry the dividing piston and nitrogen charge leaving the entirety of the body available for extended piston travel. The port off the body, flowing to the reservoir, is slightly smaller than the shaft diameter. This creates a restriction as the shock compresses – the shaft enters the body, the fluid fights the valving (through the main piston) and the shaft displaces its volumetric equivalence in oil as it travels into the body. The fluid then moves through the hose to push the dividing piston in the reservoir to account for the increased pressure from both the shaft displacement and heat-expansion of the oil. In our vast experience with shocks, we’ve become bushing snobs. In an industry obsessed with poly bushings, we’ve always measured against our benchmark – the original rubber Bilstein bushings. In an eyelet style, poly is fantastic – in a stem-top, we’ve not met a poly bushing we preferred to tried and true rubber. They do not seem to handle the forces of the stem-top as well as a rubber bushing. We’re elated to be able to spec a rubber bushing on these Carli Spec Shocks. The port off the body, flowing to the reservoir, is slightly smaller than the shaft diameter. This creates a restriction as the shock compresses – the shaft enters the body, the fluid fights the valving (through the main piston) and the shaft displaces its volumetric equivalence in oil as it travels into the body. The fluid then moves through the hose to push the dividing piston in the reservoir to account for the increased pressure from both the shaft displacement and heat-expansion of the oil. Having a bottleneck (hose restriction) between the force generation, and mechanism that accommodates it (dividing piston) helps smooth out the “turbulence” in the shock while improving bottom out resistance. In short, remote reservoir shocks are measurable less “chattery” than IFP shocks. Unlike King’s standard shafts, there is no coating to wear off, weather is far less likely to hurt them and if there is a small chip, you can round the edges with emery cloth to ensure the seal housing isn’t damaged as they’re not brittle like the stock, hardened shafts.
